Guru Purnima is celebrated as one of the most auspicious days of the year. It is marked on the full-moon day (the purnima) of the Hindu month Ashadha, which falls somewhere in between June-July.

The day is celebrated to honour one's gurus or teachers. Many people also observe a day-long fast on the occasion. The day also marks the first day in the peak of the lunar cycle.

While social media in India is usually abuzz with wishes of Guru Purnima, this year,  NASA Moon, NASA's official account about Earth's moon, too, has tweeted about it.

The Twitter handle has described the many names given to the full moon that will be spotted this weekend - Hay Moon, Mead Moon, Ripe Corn Moon and Thunder Moon - and Guru Purnima is one of the names given.
