Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu on October 15, 1931. He served the country as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007 and he was the first President of India who was a bachelor & a vegetarian.


APJ Abdul Kalam was responsible for the development & operationalization of Agni and Prithvi missiles, which earned him the title of the 'Missile Man of India'.


You will be surprised to know that he received honorary doctorates from 48 national & internationals universities.


He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and Bharat Ratna in 1997 which is the highest civilian award in India.


After the school hours, Kalam used to distribute newspapers in order to support his poor family.


He remained the Chief Scientific Adviser to the PM & Secretary of the DRDO for seven years (1992 to 1999).
